Bond 24’s Girl – Penélope Cruz?

Following on from last week’s announcement that Sam Mendes may be returning to the franchise, more exciting Bond news has hit the internet – Yahoo are reporting that Penélope Cruz is on to play the newest Bond girl.

Or at least, she’ll be playing a pretty pivotal role. Oscar-winning Cruz is too big an actress to simply have slinking around in bikinis and bedding 007, and the bets are on that she’ll be more like Quantum of Solace‘s hands-on badass Camilla Montes (Olga Kurylenko) than Skyfall‘s sultry Séverine (Bérénice Marlohe).

It’s thought that Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have wanted Cruz for a long time, but scheduling conflicts have thus far prevented it from happening.

Of course, her husband and fellow Spaniard Javier Bardem played the cyber terrorist Raoul Silva in Skyfall, and if she’s anywhere as good as he was then Bond fans should be more than satisfied.

Daniel Craig’s fourth turn as James Bond has a rough release date of sometime in 2016.
